Overview

Gas-insulated technology for a strategic energy transition.

Space constraints and the need for high corrosion resistance in industrial environments.

This project involved the engineering, procurement, fabrication, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of two substations (Punta de Palmas Substation and Peonías Substation) located on the eastern and western coasts.

These substations are strategically located to facilitate the transition from overhead power lines to submarine and underground cables, helping to improve electricity service in the northwestern region of Lake Maracaibo and benefiting a population of more than 2,000,000 people. The initiative also includes the supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of two 400-kV lines in the eastern and western sections, connecting the substations to the existing line and dismantling the towers along the onshore section.

We implemented 400-kV Gas-Insulated Substation (GIS) technology. This state-of-the-art solution not only optimized the physical space of the facility but also shielded critical components from external factors, drastically reducing long-term operating costs and maximizing system availability.
