A ground fault in high-voltage submarine circuits represents one of the most critical contingencies for any energy operator. The logistical complexity of working in aquatic environments, combined with the pinpoint precision required to handle 145-kV cables, demands an immediate technical response to prevent millions in losses due to circuit downtime and the risk of environmental contamination.

The project involved resolving a phase-to-ground fault identified in Phase B1 of the circuit, which consists of two cables per phase and includes two outdoor terminations and two splices per phase. Restoration activities: Removal and replacement of the defective splice identified during testing and inspections. Splicing of two joints in a 145-kV submarine cable.

We carried out a highly technical project in the United States focused on identifying, removing, and replacing faulty splices. Using precision diagnostic testing and state-of-the-art splicing techniques, we restored the integrity of the dual-cable-per-phase circuit, ensuring operational continuity and extending the service life of the submarine cable system in accordance with international safety standards.
